A brief history of UNPAR’s Faculty of Economics

January 17th, 1955, was a historic day for the academic community ofParahyangan Catholic University, as it kickstarted the beginning of a college that is currently known as Parahyangan Catholic University. At the said date, a commerce academy was established due to the collaboration of Monsignor P.M. Arntz, O.S.C. from Bandung Bishopric with Monsignor Professor Dr. N. J. C. Geise, O. F. M. from Bogor Bishopric. In August 1955, the commerce academy was then upgraded to Parahyangan College of Socio-Economics, which now becomes Parahyangan Catholic University’s Faculty of Economics.

On April 19th, 1962, Parahyangan Catholic University had been set to become a private university that has the same status as public universities in Indonesia according to the Minister of College and Science’s Decree no. 50 for the year 1962. With the enactment of new regulations regarding accreditation and its age in the Department of Education and Culture, Parahyangan Catholic University was then reaffirmed to become a private university which was equated to public universities for the following 3 years according to Minister’s Decree no 027/0/1981. The university was once again validated as a private institution with equated status for the following 5 years on January 20th, 1985, according to the Ministry of Education and Culture’s Decree no. 040/0/1985.

As there was a national education system shake-up, on May 19th, 1986, the Ministry of Education and Culture released Decree no. 280/0/1986, which stated that 4 faculties within the Parahyangan Catholic University’s environment were validated to be equated with public universities for the following three years. On September 1st, 1989, these faculties were once again validated with the same status for three years in accordance with the Ministry of Education and Culture’s Decree no. 052/0/1989.

With the release of the Ministry of Education and Culture’s Decree no. 224/U/1995, The National Higher Education Accreditation Board was established in 1995. As such, accreditation for both public and private universities were based on the same criteria, which was the Ministry of Education and Culture’s Decree no. 323/U/1996 regarding the accreditation of study programs in higher education institutions. Parahyangan Catholic University was given an accredited status based on the Ministry of Education and Culture’s Decree no. 78/D/0/1997. In the year of 1998, three of the bachelor’s programs in the Faculty of Economics, which were Development Economics, Management, and Accounting, were given rank A accreditations and allowed to develop similar study programs as per National Higher Education Accreditation Board’s Decree No. 001/BAN-PT/Ak-VIII/1998.

In 1995, a profession-based education was created with the establishment of a Diploma Program in Company Management and was registered through the Directorate General of Higher Education’s Decree no. 120/DIKTI/Kep/1995 dated May 12th, 1995. On December 8th, 2005, the program was accredited B with regards to the Directorate General of Higher Education’s Decree no. 269/DIKTI/Kep/1999.

Approximately one month after the establishment of Diploma programs in 1995, the Master’s program in Management was launched. In 2000, the Doctoral Program in Economics was developed and managed by the Postgraduate Study Program.

In 2003, the 3 bachelor programs in UNPAR’s Faculty of Economics were reinstated back to having rank A accreditation according to National Higher Education Accreditation Board’s Decrees no. 029/BAN-PT/Ak-VII/S1/IX/2003 for the Accounting program, and no. 033/BAN-PT/Ak-VII/IX/2003 for both Development Economics and Management programs.

In 2008, the 3 bachelor programs in UNPAR’s Faculty of Economics again were reinstated back to having rank A accreditation according to National Higher Education Accreditation Board’s Decrees no. 024/BAN-PT/Ak-XI/S1/VIII/2008 for the Accounting program, no. 020/BAN-PT/Ak-XI/S1/VIII/2008 for the Management program, and no. 017/BAN-PT/Ak-XI/S1/VIII/2008 for the Development Economics program.

In 2008, UNPAR’s Faculty of Economics was entrusted to open vocational education for Accounting.

In 2013, the 3 bachelor programs in UNPAR’s Faculty of Economics again were reinstated back to having rank A accreditation according to National Higher Education Accreditation Board’s Decrees no. 211/SK/BAN-PT/Ak-XVI/S/2013 for the Development Economics program and no. 227/SK/BAN-PT/Ak-XVI/S/XI/2013 for both Management and Accounting programs.
